Turquoise Coast
It's hard to believe that the coastal city of Bodrum is located in Turkey. Part of the 'Turquoise Coast', also known as the 'Turkish Riviera', Bodrum is one of the small towns that are speckled across Turkey's Mediterranean coast. The city is small and laid-back, with a distinctive Mediterranean vibe and was a stark contrast to both previous Turkish destinations- Istanbul and Cappadocia. Sprawling cliffs and dry, desert heat were replaced by bright blue waters, a bustling city center, thick, humid air and our first taste of seafood on the trip. Bodrum marked the transition from a grand, historical Ottoman empire to warm and playful Mediterranean vacation town. Although the city does boast a couple impressive historic landmarks, it's popularity is mostly from summer tourism by Turks and other Europeans.
My evil eye bracelet, bought in Istanbul, was the perfect jewelry piece for Bodrum. The crystals caught the light much like the sparkling Mediterranean waters, and the evil eye, a well-known symbol in Turkey, reminded me of the deep-rooted culture and beliefs in the region. All of the blue and white- in the town, and on my bracelet served as a foreshadow for what was to come. It was time to say goodbye to Turkey, and hello to Greece!
